Tool steel properties 

 (1) Hardness 

 Tools made of tool steel after heat treatment has a sufficiently high hardness, such as for metal cutting tools in general HRC60 or more. Tool in high cutting speed and processing hard materials produced by high temperature heating conditions, can still maintain high hardness and good red hardness. Carbon tool steel and alloy tool steel is generally 180 ℃ ~ 250 ℃, high speed tool steel at about 600 ℃ work temperature, can still maintain a high hardness. Rigid deformation of the red hot steel molds and high-speed cutting tools is very important to performance. 

 (2) wear 

 Tool steel with good wear resistance, ie the ability to resist wear and tear. Tools to withstand considerable pressure and friction conditions, can still maintain their shape and size unchanged. 

 (3) strength and toughness 

 Tool steel has a certain strength and toughness, so that tools can withstand the work load, shock, vibration, and other complex bending stress, in order to ensure the normal use of tools. 

 (4) Other properties 

 As the tools have different working conditions, tools, steel also has some other properties, such as mold steel also has a certain high temperature mechanical properties, thermal fatigue, thermal conductivity and wear corrosion and so on.
